Hedge & Accounting Control Analyst

Main Purpose:

Deals Desk within Trafigura is a middle office team providing risk analysis globally on a real time basis. Our primary responsibilities revolve around monitoring all elements of risk and exposure related to our commercial activity and report it directly to the board on a daily basis. We serve in a support role for traders through which requires daily interaction with operations, finance and accounting teams. Commercially, we add value by providing traders with risk assessments and analysis, which highlight their exposure, optionality and PnL. These reports are essential to help them make the right commercial decisions and optimize the opportunities their portfolios generate, all the while providing deals desk employees with an unprecedented front office learning experience in the world of trading.

The role encompasses communication with third party customers in relation to the price fixations on physical deals and ensuring the resultant risk is properly mitigated. It also includes managing and reconciling the groups mining position on both physical and derivatives including those activities within the groups Nyrstar operations. The successful candidate should have strong communication skills, which include daily interactions with our Nyrstar and Trafigura teams around the globe.

  • Strong communicator, comfortable liaising in English with own team, Traders and internal departments.
  • Motivated to succeed in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strives to improve processes and procedures to maximise efficiency.
  • Excellent attention to detail, seeks to understand and question the results of what they have produced prior to distributing it.
  • Accounting background is preferred due to need of intercompany reconciliations.
  • SAP experience desirable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Intercompany exposure reconciliation between Nyrstar/Trafigura.
  • Preparation of mining sheets and updating physical assumptions via communications with respective FP&A teams across the group.
  • Daily spread card production including validating spread risk and daily changes in exposure.
  • Daily system control review.
  • Contract entry validation before new contracts are released to risk module.
  • Daily pricing verification and updating fixations/hedges.
